Stress is the most common cause of mental health problems today

The most common forms of mental health problems are those caused by stress. Stress contributes to a wide variety of symptoms ranging from agitation, irritation and tension, to difficulty concentrating, loss of short term memory and physical symptoms such as insomnia, increased aches and pains and decreased immunity.

What is stress?

Technically stress is anything that taxes our mental, emotional and physical resources. Things that tax our mental, emotional and physical resources can be sounds, smells, heat right through to the things we think and do. Stress at the right levels is good for us. With too little stress we become bored, lose hope and enthusiasm for life. With too much stress we enter into a state of overwhelm. The key to stress is to have the right amount of stress for the tasks we need to perform. 

When most people talk about stress they are really talking about too much stress or overwhelm. Overwhelm is defined as that state that occurs when the organism is unable to adapt to the demands of the prevailing conditions.

Hypnotherapy can help reduce stress

On its own hypnotherapy is a very useful tool in the treatment of stress. Depending on the type of hypnosis applied stress can be greatly reduced by reducing the number and intensity of negative intrusive thoughts. Hypnotherapy can also help you reduce your stress levels by shifting your mental focus from a stressful focus to an optimistic focus.
