Panic Attack Counselling

Regain Calm, Clarity, and Control

Panic attacks can be overwhelming. They often appear suddenly, creating intense fear or discomfort—sometimes with no obvious cause.

For many, panic attacks feel physical: a racing heart, shortness of breath, dizziness, or even the sensation that something terrible is about to happen. If you’re experiencing panic attacks, you’re not alone; you don’t have to manage them on your own.

At Clear Day Consulting, we provide professional, evidence-based counselling that helps you understand what’s happening, reduce your symptoms, and regain a sense of calm and control in your life.

Contact us, and let’s help you regain a sense of calmness and control.

What is Anxiety?

Anxiety is a natural response to stress, danger, or uncertainty. However, when anxiety becomes persistent, intense, or begins to interfere with daily life, it may indicate an anxiety disorder. Panic attacks are often linked to anxiety and can develop suddenly—sometimes even when there’s no clear trigger.

At its core, anxiety is your body’s way of preparing for a perceived threat. But when this system is overactive, it can lead to chronic worry, panic episodes, and avoidance behaviours that affect your overall well-being.

Signs and Symptoms of a Panic Attack

Panic attacks can be distressing, especially when you don’t understand what’s happening.

Common symptoms include:

  • Rapid or pounding heartbeat
  • Shortness of breath or tightness in the chest
  • Sweating or trembling
  • Dizziness or light-headedness
  • Feeling detached or disconnected
  • Nausea or abdominal distress
  • Numbness or tingling
  • A sense of losing control or fear of dying

These symptoms can peak within minutes and often subside within 20 to 30 minutes. However, the fear of having another panic attack can cause ongoing anxiety and lead to avoidance of certain places or situations.

What to Do if You’re Experiencing a Panic Attack

If youre in the midst of a panic attack, it can be frightening—but there are ways to manage it:

  • Focus on your breathing. Try to slow your breaths by counting in for four and out for four.
  • Remind yourself that the symptoms, while uncomfortable, are not dangerous.
  • Ground yourself by naming five things you can see, four you can feel, three you can hear.
  • If possible, move to a quieter or more calming space.

Most importantly, consider seeking professional support from Clear Day Consulting. Panic attacks are treatable, and you don’t have to live in fear of the next one.

This depends on your unique situation. Some people experience improvement within a few sessions, while others benefit from longer-term support. We’ll discuss a plan that works for you.

Many clients experience a significant reduction in the frequency and intensity of their panic attacks with effective counselling. In some cases, symptoms may resolve entirely over time.

Not always. For many people, counselling alone provides the tools needed to manage panic attacks. If medication may be helpful, we can discuss options and work with your GP or psychiatrist.
